Summary
Malo and welcome to Episode 55 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika peoples sports on this cloudy and chilly 23 degrees Celsius Wednesday morning 24 August 2022 – coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
And we start with rugby – the USA7s hits Los Angeles this weekend where Fiji is in Pool C with Ireland, France and Wales. Pool B has New Zealand, South Africa, USA and Canada. Pool D has Samoa top seed, ahead of England, Scotland and Kenya while those awful Aussies head Pool A with Spain, Argentina and Japan.
Go Samoa Go Fiji Go.
In the NRL – Round 24 starts Thursday with the Broncos vs Eels at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane and on Friday it’s the Panthers vs NZ Warriors at 6pm at BlueBet Stadium out west at Penrith and then the Storm take down the Sydney Roosters at AAMI Park in Melbourne.
Saturday sees Ricky Stuart’s Raiders hosting Manly at 3pm at GIO Stadium in Canberra, followed by the Sharks vs Bulldogs at 5.30pm PointsBet and Souths vs the Cowboys at 7.35pm Accor Stadium in Sydney.
We won’t worry about the Knights and the Titans – they’re hopeless like the Dragons!
In football – Man U beat Liverpool 2-1 yesterday at Old Trafford, so incredibly the Reds have NOT had a win in their first three games of this new season! Ouch. Meanwhile the Man U Viking boss – Eric10 is chasing another Brazilian – Anthony who plays on the Wing for his old Club Ajax.
In boxing – Ukrainian Cossack Warrior Oleksandr Usyk’s split points win over the soggy, sodden and wooden Anthony Joshua on Sunday in Saudi Arabia, is backed up by key punching stats for their fight, which shows Usyk threw a total of 712 punches – landing 170 at 24% accuracy to Joshua’s 492 punches thrown for 124 landed at 25%.
Despite being marginally pipped in accuracy – Usyk’s sustained output and aggression tipped the fight in his favour, especially through the championship rounds 10 through 12 – the crucial closing stage of the fight, where Usyk landed an incredible 79 punches on Joshua, over the final three rounds, compared to just 29 by the Brit.
BOOM fight over!
In tennis – turns out the young lady accused by Nick Kyrgios of having ‘about 700 drinks’ during this year’s Wimbledon final is a lawyer, and oilei so she’s taking legal action against the controversial Australian tennis star for defamation.
The lady – Anna Palus claims she only had two drinks – a Pimms and a glass of wine and she was calling out to Kyrgios to support him.
Yeah right – right when he’s in the middle of his serve! Sounds like a set up to me!
