Summary
Malo and welcome to Episode 48 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika peoples sports on this beautiful sunny Wednesday morning 17 August 2022 – coming to you from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
And we start with rugby –
Mystery surrounds the Fiji Rugby Union scandal with three staff sacked and CEO John O’Connor voluntarily going home on annual leave while an investigation is carried out into “governance issues”.
It seems like a huge overreaction and someone outside Rugby House pulling the strings behind the scenes for whatever reason.
So, business as usual at Fiji Rugby Union.
Former New Zealand Black Ferns 7s star, Gayle Broughton is the new fullback at Parramatta Eels, replacing the injured Botille Vette-Welsh, and will make her NRL Women’s competition debut in Round 1 on Saturday 1pm against the Sydney Roosters at CommBank Stadium in Sydney.
Other games in the NRLW competition this weekend Round 1: St George Dragons v Gold Coast Titans on Sunday 12pm at WIN Stadium and the Newcastle Knights v Brisbane Broncos on Sunday 6.10pm at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Go girls go!
In boxing – “We’re gonna knock him out” – you just gotta laugh!
That’s Anthony Joshua at his open training session in Saudi Arabia before JOSHUA-USYK II in the early hours of Sunday morning.
We just find it so unconvincing – surely Joshua should be saying “I” will knock him out – he can’t take his trainer and sparring partners into the ring to knock our Usyk.
Sorry AJ but we’re tipping Usyk to win and by knockout!
