History was made at Mt Smart Stadium on Friday night with Moana Pasifika playing their first ever game, going down 61-7 to the Chiefs in a Super Rugby Pacific preseason fixture.
On the same ground that welcomed the Warriors 27 years ago, Moana Pasifika got underway in a far more subdued manner and instead of playing in a packed stadium like the Warriors did against the Broncos in March 1995, sadly there was just a handful of people in the stands for this game, because of Covid-19 restrictions.
In a match played over three 30-minute periods, where both teams used their entire squads, the result of this game was meaningless, although it did show there’s plenty of work to do for Moana Pasifika before they play the Blues in their first real game of the season on February 18.
