History was made in front of a sell-out crowd at the inaugural HSBC SVNS Perth 7s yesterday, as Ireland women claimed a first ever SVNS title tripping up hot favourites Australia 14-19 and Argentina men won back-to-back events for the first time after trouncing Australia 5-31 in the finals.
Earlier, Argentina beat Ireland 5-24 and Fiji bombed out to Australia 7-22 in the Men’s Cup semifinals
In the Women’s semifinals, Ireland 31-7 Great Britain and Australia 24-7 USA.
Bronze medals went to Great Britain women and Ireland men.
Unfortunately, Fijiana finished down the ladder after a couple of close losses. As for Ben Gollings and his Fiji Men’s team . . er . . no comment.
