In combat sports – UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar has died at the age of 45, leaving fighters and fans across the MMA community shattered.
Bonnar was a finalist on the first ever season of The Ultimate Fighter and was credited by UFC Prez, Dana White as saving the promotion when he and Forest Griffin stood toe-to-toe and unleashed at the end of a hellacious fight during the season finale.
No official cause of death has been released.
In football – the only player in history to have won three FIFA World Cups – in 1958, 1962 and 1970 – Pele took the 1958 World Cup by storm when he was only 17 years old, netting a hat trick in the semifinals and two more goals in the final, catapulting his own career and launching the dynasty of the Brazilian national team.
Family members spent Christmas with Pele at the Sao Paulo hospital where the legendary footballer is battling worsening cancer as well as kidney and heart problems.
Considered by many to be the greatest of all time, Pele has been hospitalised since November.
