Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 59 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a bright and sunny Monday morning 28 November 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

In Qatar at the FIFA World Cup today: Upsets were the order of the day as first Costa Rica 1-0 Japan, then Morocco 2-0 Belgium, Croatia 4-1 Canada at Khalifa International Stadium, leaving Germany with everything to do against Spain at 7am this morning, to keep their hopes alive.

Meanwhile a female Argentine TV station reporter, Dominique Metzger claims money and documents were stolen from her handbag as she interviewed and danced with fans before the Qatar versus Ecuador FIFA World Cup game in Doha on Sunday – more on that later.

In rugby union – Rugby Australia has floated the idea with their trans-Tasman neighbours, New Zealand Rugby about fielding a combined ANZAC XV against the British and Irish Lions in 2025 with the prospect of 100,000 fans packing the MCG for the rugby extravaganza. NZR is considering the idea.

Awesome and you know why? The Pacific Islanders Team featuring the best from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga well they can be touring again as the next cab off the ramp. Thanks Charlie!

In rugby league – ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys has confirmed the ORIGIN eligibility rules will be reviewed following widespread calls for tier-one players to be able to take part. Under current rules players cannot represent either Queensland or NSW after playing for another tier-one nation other than Australia.

The Titans are eyeing Cowboys young gun Jeremiah Nanai as a contingency plan should David Fifita move on to another Club. Meanwhile, Broncos forward Keenan Palasia has requested an immediate release from the final year of his contract with several Clubs interested to sign him.

In boxing – Jermaine Franklin claimed he was robbed after he lost a majority decision against Dillian Whyte in their tough 12-round fight at Wembley Arena yesterday. Whyte now has his eyes on a 2023 rematch with Anthony Joshua who was at ringside: “I’ll fight Joshua tomorrow for less money.”

So continuing with the story about the Argentinian TV journo who had cash and docs stolen from her.

The robbery wasn’t caught on camera, but Dominique Metzger believes it happened as she danced with fans, with her bag hanging from her shoulder.

She reported the theft to the Qatari authorities soon after, only to be baffled when Police officers asked her what kind of punishment she wanted for the thief.

“The policewoman said to me ‘We have high-tech cameras everywhere and we are going to locate him with face detection. What justice do you want when we find him? What sentence do you want us to give him?”

Huh? Sharia Law or what? I think Dominique dropped the charge!
