The second Oceania Women’s Rugby Combine will be held in Fiji from August 21 through 26 this year.

Twenty players from Samoa, Tonga and Papua New Guinea were selected for the Combine based on their performances at the 2023 Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship at Bond University on the Gold Coast, Australia last month.

Oceania Rugby will select nine women rugby players from the Combine for Super W 2024 Season scholarship placements, thanks to the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports program.

In rugby league

Many are condemning the NRL’s contract rules that allows players to break contracts, amid the unfolding Ben Hunt drama, with the Dragons star’s move to the Broncos imminent. Hunt is pushing for an immediate release despite his lucrative contract running until the end of 2025.

Ben Hunt backed up from ORIGIN II in the Dragons loss to the NZ Warriors last Friday night, but Hunt has almost certainly played his last game for the Club as he pushes for an early exit. Wayne Bennett says there is “no accountability” when players are allowed to break contracts.

Meanwhile, Manly has officially signed Luke Brooks to a huge long-term deal while also signing Roosters Centre Jaxson Paulo and Wests Tigers outside back Tommy Talau.

Brooks, Paulo and Talau will all join the Club in 2024, while the Sea Eagles have also re-signed Tolu Koula until the end of 2027.

Brooks, 28, has played 202 NRL games since making his first-grade debut for Wests Tigers in 2013.

Paulo, 23, has scored 25 tries in 54 NRL matches through stints at South Sydney and now the Sydney Roosters. He has also represented Samoa at Test level.

“Jaxson brings over 50 games of NRL experience with him. He has been in really good systems at the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Sydney Roosters,’’ Manly Coach, Anthony Seibold said.

In Sportsbiz

A group of investors including Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has bought a 24 per cent stake in the Alpine Formula 1 team for US$218Million, valuing the business at approximately US$909M.

Reynolds and McElhenney’s most notable sporting investment is in Welsh football club Wrexham, the story of which is told in a Netflix documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham”.

In football

Chelsea could profit further from Saudi cash with Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy close to joining Al Ahli, while Moroccan Wing Hakim Ziyech is on the brink of a move to Al Nassr.

The English Club needs to sell players before the end of the month to comply with financial fair play regulations, after spending over £500 million on new signings last year.

In boxing

This whole Zuckerberg versus Musk fight situation arose over what seemed to be joking tweets between the Twitter/Tesla/SpaceX head honcho Musk and Facebook founder and CEO Zuckerberg.

Responding to a tweet about Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu training, Musk tweeted, “I’m up for a cage fight if he is LOL.” To which Zuckerberg responded, “Send Me Location.”

That was it – harmless chatter really.

Somehow, that led to UFC Prez Dana White chatting with both men on the phone for what he described as a couple of hours.

He then told TMZ Sports that Zuckerberg and Musk indicated they were dead serious about wanting to fight each other.

Yeah right, this is all typical UFC Prez Dana White hype!

And that’s a wrap!
