Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 53 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a cloudy but bright Saturday morning 27 May 2023.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

In Super Rugby Pacific Round 14

The Highlanders 35-30 Reds and the Rebels 52-14 Force last night. Today we tip the Fijian Drua to toast Moana Pasifika at 2.05pm, the Crusaders to roast the NSW Waratahs at 4.35pm, the Blues to ghost the Hurricanes and the Brumbies to zoom the Chiefs.

Oceania Rugby Women’s Championships

And in the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championships at Bond University on the Gold Coast, Australia: Fijiana 77 nil Papua New Guinea and Samoa 69-5 Tonga.

In rugby league

The Cowboys needed to respond to last week’s horror loss to the Tigers and they did exactly that scoring first, but Maika Sivo scored plus a Mitchell Moses try in the final two minutes sealed a 24-16 win for Parramatta.

Our World Famous Tip for today: The NZ Warriors to kwazulu the Broncos, South Sydney to zambuka the Raiders and tomorrow the Newcastle Knights to ponga Manly.

In football

A resounding 4-1 victory over Chelsea yesterday confirmed Manchester United’s place in next season’s Champions League.

Aston Villa and Brentford are competing for the final spot in the Europa League, which could go all the way to the final game of the season.

And a frighteningly realistic scenario for Everton and Leicester, is if Leeds United pull off a last-day miracle and beat Tottenham Hotspur and both these clubs lose their games – they both go down.

In the NBA

The Lakers are gone! All hail King Jokic!

Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Nikola Jokic led a second-half fightback with 30 points for the Denver Nuggets to send LeBron James and the Lakers crashing out of the postseason 113-111 at the Crypto.com Arena to complete a 4-0 Western Conference sweep and reach the NBA Finals for the first time in their franchise history.

Jokic recorded his eighth triple-double of the postseason, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s record which had stood for 56 years.

Now the big question hangs over the future of LeBron James.

In boxing

A Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua fight is once again being discussed, according to ESPN, with promoters for the two fighters working on a potential deal for a September fight in the United Kingdom.

In SportsBiz

Even in retirement, Tom Brady has a strong pull on demand for NFL games: The most expensive game on the secondary market is the New England Patriots’ home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, where Brady is expected to be honored. Fans are paying US$1,054 on average for seats.

On the flip side, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seen a 41% drop in demand in ticket sales with the legendary quarterback no longer playing for them.

In NBA

For the second straight game the Boston Celtics fended off elimination, cutting the deficit in their Eastern Conference finals to 3-2.

Boston poured in 16 three-pointers in a dominant 110-97 victory over the Miami Heat yesterday to stay alive in the NBA championship chase.

And that’s a wrap!
