Ki ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula & Welcome to Season 08 Episode 79 of Breakfast Bites the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 27 March 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

In Rugby

The big rumour swirling around the kava bowls in Suva this week is that the Fiji Rugby Union interim Chairman Peter Mazey is going to announce the new Head Coach of the Flying Fijians this week.

And the odds are, with Simon Raiwalui spotted inside the Fijian Drua Coaches box last Saturday at Churchill Park that it will be Mick Byrne.

In football

England football Manager, Gareth Southgate says they have not been distracted by the uproar raging all over England around the multi-coloured cross of Saint George that Nike inserted on their new England kit.

England are preparing to play Brazil in a friendly at Wembley.

In boxing

Has Aussie champ Tim Tszyu bitten off more than he can chew?

If he wins on Sunday against towering American Sebastian Fundora, his promoter will immediately enter into discussions for Tszyu to defend the WBO and WBC titles against world boxing’s pound-for-pound King, American superstar Terence Crawford.

First he has to get through Fundora!

In rugby league

There has been a raft of changes across the NRL in Round 4, many involving star players like Nathan Cleary, Reece Walsh and Mitch Moses all out injured.

Star halfback Adam Reynolds returns in a much-needed boost for the Broncos, while the Eels have picked an exciting youngster in the halves to partner Dylan Brown in the absence of Mitch Moses.

So the NRL Round 4 games this Easter weekend:

  • Thursday 8pm Roosters vs Panthers at Allianz Stadium
  • Friday 4.05pm Rabbitohs vs Bulldogs at Accor Stadium
  • 8pm Broncos vs Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium
  • Saturday 5.30pm Dragons vs Manly at WIN Stadium
  • 7.35pm Titans vs Dolphins, Cbus Super Stadium
  • Sunday 4.05pm NZ Warriors vs Knights at Go Media Stadium
  • 6.15pm Sharks vs Raiders at PointsBet Stadium
  • Monday 4pm Eels vs Wests Tigers at CommBank Stadium

In SportsBiz

Nike says it never intended to offend England fans with their new look Saint George’s cross, but did not indicate any plans to change the England kit design.

Of course by now millions of replica England football shirts will be in the supply chain on their way to stores for sale.

So that’s a wrap!
