Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 07 Episode 54 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Saturday morning 25 November 2023.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

In rugby league

The Dragons and Bulldogs are the two Clubs leading the race for want-away NZ Warriors forward Addin Fonua-Blake after the Tongan enforcer requested a release from his contract with the Warriors on compassionate grounds last month to head back to Sydney to be with family.

The Dally M Prop of the Year will stay with the NZ Warriors in 2024, but will likely be sporting new colours in 2025 and beyond.

Meanwhile the Tigers have shopped prop David Klemmer to NRL rivals in a bid to free up his A$750,000 salary to help them land Jarome Luai on a A$4Million deal.

In Football

Former Barcelona, PSG and Juventus star, Dani Alves is set to stand trial for alleged sex assault and could face up to nine years behind bars if found guilty

The former Brazil international, 40, is accused of raping a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub on 30 December 2022, and was arrested in January after turning himself in.

In addition to requesting a nine-year prison sentence for the defendant, the prosecution has requested compensation of €150,000 for the complainant.

Alves has been in prison without bail since handing himself in 10 months ago. He has denied any wrongdoing and insists the sex was consensual.

In combat sports

Finally – it’s confirmed so save the date – 17 February 2024 is when Tyson Fury will put his WBC belt on the line, with the WBA, IBF and WBO titles held by Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk also up for grabs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The winner will be crowned the Heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis from 1999 to 2000.

Finally in Rugby Union

Rumours in Fiji are that a French Top 14 Club Coach and a Tier One rugby nation Coach lead the shortlist of candidates who have applied to take over as Head Coach of the Flying Fijians.

In a puzzling move, the Fiji Rugby Union interim Board has named Senirusi Seruvakula “to act in the role” for now.

Sounds like a Bollywood blockbuster!

You can bet if interim Chairman Peter Mazey and team had a big fish applicant, they would have jumped to name him already, but have now kicked this can down the line to the next mob.

And that’s a wrap!
