In  rugby – Whangārei will once again be packed out when it hosts the first  two Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter-finals this Saturday 29 October  with France versus Italy followed by the Black Ferns against Wales. Then  on Sunday Waitākere Stadium will host Quarterfinals 3 and 4 with  England taking on Australia and Canada playing USA.

In  netball – conflicting reports are coming out of Australia where they  play the Tall Ferns in the fourth and deciding Test on the Gold Coast  today to decide the winner of the Constellation Cup.

Apparently  indigenous player Donnell Wallam, a Noongar woman from Western  Australia, had agreed to wear the uniform with new sponsor “Hancock  Prospecting” for this Series, but Billionaire Gina Rinehart’s mining  company pulled the plug on the A$15Million sponsorship deal with Netball  Australia.

At the Rugby League World Cup – Toa  Samoa scored 13 tries against Greece yesterday with Tim Lafai, Chanel  Harris-Tavita and Danny Levi scoring two tries each in Doncaster and  Brian To’o, Junior Paulo, Royce Hunt, Jarome Luai, Fa’amanu Brown,  Stephen Crichton and Mat Feagai also crossing. Samoa play France next  Sunday for a Quarterfinals spot.

The  Fiji Bati made Hawai’ian pizza of the Italians yesterday with Viliame  Kikau, Penioni Tagituimua and Maika Sivo each scoring twice and Kevin  Naiqama, Apisai Koroisau, Ben Nakubuwai and Taniela Sadrugu also  crossing. Fiji advance to the Quarterfinals if they beat Scotland next  Sunday.

In football – Mohamed Salah and Liverpool continued their resurgence in a hard-fought win that dented Man City’s EPL title defence yesterday.

Egyptian  Pharaoh, Salah scored the only goal of the game when he slotted past  Ederson in the 76th minute for Liverpool’s first win in four top-flight  games.

In boxing – Islam  Makhachev emulated his Coach and Mentor – King Khabib to beat Charles  Oliveira and win the Lightweight title at UFC280 in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

In the co-main event, American TJ Dillashaw fought with a dislocated shoulder in losing to Aljamain Sterling.

Another  American rising star, Sean O’Malley beat Russian Petr Yan in a  controversial decision that he didn’t think he’d actally won.

This is UFC Prez Dana White desperately trying to create a new Irish-American star.
