In rugby union

Results from Super Rugby Pacific opening round last night: The Chiefs pipped the Crusaders 29-33, the Brumbies bashed the Rebels 3-30 and the Hurricanes beat the Force 14-44.

Today in the big dance, we tip the Fijian Drua to beat the Blues in Whangarei, the Highlanders to mangle Moana Pasifika and the Reds to crunch the Waratahs.

In the SVNS Vancouver 7s today Fiji time: Fijiana vs USA at 7.30am and Fijiana vs Australia at 12.46pm, and in the Men’ s comp it’s the All Blacks 7s vs South Africa at 9.52am, Australia vs Samoa at 10.58am, Fiji vs Spain at 11.20am and Argentina vs Canada at 11.42am.

In the late games: Samoa vs France at 3.40pm and Fiji play Canada at 4.24pm.

In rugby league

BREAKING NEWS: Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Head Coach Cameron Ciraldo has made one of the biggest calls of his coaching career by appointing star recruit from the Penrith Panthers, Stephen Crichton as the Club’s new Captain.

The Toa Samoa international sensationally replaces co-Captains Reed Mahoney and Matt Burton, with Ciraldo informing the Bulldogs playing group of the news on Thursday morning.

In combat sports: Vladimir Putin gifted former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov US$20Million worth of property in Russia following his victory over Conor McGregor, according to UFC boss Dana White.

“Then he went into the Muslim countries where these guys gave cars, money, gyms, whatever he wanted.”

Nurmagomedov fought just two more times following his win over McGregor before retiring in 2020.

McGregor’s career fell off a cliff following the defeat and the Irishman has never been the same since.

Former Brazilian defender and Barcelona legend Dani Alves has been found guilty of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub on 30 December 2022.

The 40-year-old former footballer has been sentenced to four and a half years behind bars, as The Sun reports.

In a trial held in Barcelona earlier this month, the footballer denied the allegations and said the encounter had been consensual.

NRL powerbrokers are considering a bold move to buy the English Super League in what is shapingup to be a historic investment.

That is according to The Daily Telegraph who are reporting the NRL have begun investigating the ‘financial viability’ of taking over the rival competition.
