In Rugby

The World 7s Series branded “HSBC SVNS” is a bold ambition to supercharge rugby’s global reach and appeal to a younger, leisure-hungry audience, through a unique festival of sport, entertainment and culture set against stunning backdrops.

In rugby league

It’s a beautiful game isn’t it? News is breaking that the Newcastle Knights approached two-time premiership-winning Coach, Des Hasler prior to the Gold Coast Titans landing him as their big catch.

The news comes amid continued speculation about the future of Knights Coach Adam O’Brien

And what do you know – the day after the story on Phil Gould visiting their big bro in jail to “check on his wellbeing”, Wests Tigers announced the signings of Samuela and Latu Fainu from the Manly Sea Eagles on a A$4Million four-year deal for the pair combined.

At the Tour de France

“I’m gone, I’m dead,” and with that, Tadej Pogacar conceded defeat to Jonas Vingegaard in the fight for the yellow jersey of the 2023 Tour de France, as Felix Gall won Stage 17 on the mighty Col de la Loze at the end of the 166km from Saint-Gervais.

Pogacar crumbled with eight kilometres to the summit on the punishing 28km climb which peaks at 2,304M, as the gap between the top two blew out to seven-and-a-half minutes heading into Stage 18.

In football

The FIFA World Cup Group Games kicks off tonight in New Zealand in Group A with New Zealand versus Norway at 7pm at Eden Park Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau and in Group B – Australia versus Republic of Ireland at 8pm local time at Stadium Australia in Sydney/Gadigal.

Ryan Giggs – remember him? The ex-Man U star is hoping to revive his career in the game after being cleared of domestic violence allegations made by his ex-girlfriend after prosecutors offered no evidence and withdrew the prosecution on Tuesday at Manchester Crown Court.

Giggs left the Wales managerial job in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar while facing trial.

In combat sports

The Next Big Thing of Aussie boxing – Paulo Aokuso took his undefeated streak to five wins with a comprehensive, but hard fought win over Renold Quinlan at Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter last night.

Despite missing out on the KO he had predicted, the 26-year-old Aokuso still did enough for all three judges to score the fight 80-72 for a unanimous decision win.

And that’s a wrap!
