Ki ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula & Welcome to Season 08 Episode 48 of Breakfast Bites the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny & bright Sunday morning 18 February 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

In rugby union

Top Kiwi rugby commentators have tipped a Crusaders versus Chiefs final in Super Rugby Pacific 2024, with Damian McKenzie winning it for the Chiefs.

At the other end of the comp, they also tip Moana Pasifika as wooden spooners again!

In rugby league

It was a sloppy start early but the Rabbitohs flexed their muscles in the second half to kick away from the Dragons for a 28-6 win in the Charity Shield.

Souths wing Braidon Burns crossed for a second half double as the Rabbitohs outscored their rivals 22-0 after the main break.

Meanwhile, Parramatta big man Ofahiki Ogden crashed over for the first try and things were looking ominous for Canberra when Sean Russell scored to make it 10-0 after 12 minutes.

But the Raiders stormed back, scoring five unanswered tries on their way to a 38-16 win over the Eels in their Pre-season Challenge yesterday.

In combat sports

BIG drama in California yesterday as Aussie-Samoan heavyweight beast, Justin Tafa is out of UFC298, injured in his last training session less than 48 hours before his fight … no worries, his little brother, 115Kg Junior will replace him against Brazilian Marcos Rogerio de Lima.

In the NBA

The Lakers make a family pitch to keep LeBron James in LA.

With speculation around whether James will exercise his US$51.4Million player option after this season, or enter free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers are willing to explore the option of adding his son, Bronny James, for the 2024-25 season, according to The Athletic.

Bronny, a freshman at USC, can enter the 2024 NBA Draft, suffered a cardiac arrest in training in July, but the Lakers are willing to consider adding him to keep LeBron happy, and in LA.

In SportsBiz

Data from Nielsen shows the final audience for Super Bowl LVIII reached an average of 123.7 million, reconfirming that game’s status as the largest single event in the history of US television.

It represents a 7.4% boost from a year ago, but across multiple segments, women showed even greater levels of growth, thanks to – you know who.

Women aged between 18–24 watching the game on CBS and Univision posted a 24% jump over Super Bowl LVII viewers, while girls aged 12–17 posted an 11% jump.

So women overall logged a 9% increase to 58.8 million viewers, or 47.5% of the game’s total audience.

So the big question for the NFL is – will Taylor Swift marry or drop Travis Kelce in 2025?

So that’s a wrap!
