In rugby union – with less than nine months remaining until the Rugby World Cup in France, former All Blacks Head Coach, Sir Steve Hansen has urged World Rugby to invite top players and coaches to offer their views on how to solve the game’s major issues ahead of their showpiece tournament.
Hansen must have a book coming out soon or something – a Netflix gig maybe?
In rugby league – the mother of Bronco Payne Haas will remain behind bars on manslaughter charges until March after her lawyer abandoned a bail application in a Gold Coast court on Friday. Uiatu “Joan” Taufua 46, was in a crash that killed Susan Zimmer, 70, Chris Fawcett, 79, and Ms Zimmer’s daughter Steffanie on 23 December last year.
In football – a quick-fire Solly March double early in the second half, followed by a goal by substitute Danny Welbeck wrapped up Brighton Hove Albion’s superb 3-0 win at home against a stunned and outplayed Liverpool at the Amex Stadium. Meanwhile Man U 2-1 Man City at Old Trafford.
In boxing – former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou has become a free agent, after turning down the biggest contract in UFC heavyweight history. The Nigerian great is now expected to pursue a big money fight in boxing against the likes of the Gypsy King or Deontay Wilder maybe.
Just to be clear – Anthony Joshua will do a runner for sure.
Only in the US – Hollywood actor and stand-up comedian, DL Hughley has criticized the UFC, along with its broadcast partner ESPN, for declining to comment on Dana White slapping his wife.
“If that had been a brotha, it’d be NONSTOP coverage, dredging up a playground fight from the 3rd grade, scouring old tweets, you name it.
- #DanaWhite ‘s ENTIRE LIFE is immersed in brutal , physical violence, he’s amassed a fortune from it. Where are the salacious headlines?? Where’s the pressure?? Ohhhhh, he apologized.
- #WhitePrivilege (PUN INTENDED) scores a 1st round knockout yet again.”
Word bro word!
How about this for an “only in the US” story from down under – the AFL Greater West Sydney Giants newly appointed Head of Development, Robbie Chancellor has been busted by Police buying less than a gram of cocaine for A$300, on 10 December.
As first reported by the Daily Mail, Chancellor bought the cocaine while going for a jog near his home in Sydney’s inner-west.
So there’s one Head of Development gone – maybe he was over-developed?
