In Rugby

Final results from the World Rugby U20 Championship 2023 in South Africa: France 50-14 Ireland, England 15-22 South Africa, Australia 57-33 Wales, NZ 50-26 Georgia, Fiji 22-43 Argentina for sixth place and Italy 45-27 Japan so down they go to the World Rugby U20 trophy in 2024.

Watch out tonight for the All Blacks versus South Africa at Mount Smart Stadium, Auckland.

In rugby league

The Bulldogs have lost Josh Addo-Carr for at least three weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in ORIGIN III.

Bulldogs GM Phil Gould confirmed last night that “The Foxx” has suffered a grade two strain. Rookie Jeral Skelton will replace Addo-Carr against the Broncos clash at Belmore tonight.

At the Storm, Ryan Papenhuyzen trained with the team for the first time in 12 months this week, since fracturing his kneecap in Round 18 last year against Canberra.

The Storm play the Sydney Roosters today.

At the Tour de France

Former world champion Michal Kwiatkowski broke away from the peleton about 11 kilometers to the top of the Grand Colombier mountain and held on to claim a second career Tour stage win.

Little by little, two-time Tour de France champion, Tadej Pogacar is cutting into defending Champion, Jonas Vingegaard’s Yellow jersey lead.

With a sudden acceleration near the finish of a long and brutal ascent in yesterday’s Stage 13, the Slovenian crossed four seconds ahead, and is now only nine seconds behind the Dane in the battle for the famous yellow jersey.

In SportzBiz

Citing anonymous sources, Bloomberg is reporting that CAA could receive a valuation of more than US$7Billion in a potential deal, though the report also stated that talks with a French Billionaire could end without a final agreement.

Stacked with talent that includes MLB sensation Shohei Ohtani and Cristiano Ronaldo, CAA handles an estimated US$17.8B in sports contracts.

The Hollywood powerhouse, which represents talent across all forms of entertainment, is the most valuable sports agency in the world, according to Forbes.

At Wimbledon

On a day of high drama, where seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic was booed by the centre court crowd, the world No. 2 powered into his ninth Wimbledon final, beating Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 that also moves him closer to a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title.

The 36-year-old will face world No. 1 and reigning US Open Champion, 20 year old Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.

Alcaraz beat Russian third seed Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in theIR second semi-final.

In football

Manchester City striker Mary Fowler scored the only goal in the 66th minute as Australia warmed up for the FIFA World Cup by beating fifth-ranked France 1-0 last night, in front of more than 50,000 fans in Melbourne; the largest ever crowd on home soil for the Australian Women’s team.

It ensured the tournament co-hosts head into their opening World Cup game against Ireland in Sydney on Thursday on a winning note.

In combat sports

When asked about Tyson Fury’s decision to take on Francis Ngannou in boxing, Oleksandr Usyk said: “I have one ambition – it’s to fight Tyson Fury.” Then he jokingly said, “I saw that Conor McGregor put some significant weight on. Hey Conor, why don’t we make a fight at Wembley?”

And that’s a wrap!
