Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 71 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s people’s sports news on another cloudy, but bright Wednesday morning 14 June 2023.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

In the NBA

After 47 long years, the wait is over – the Denver Nuggets are NBA Champions, defeating the Miami Heat 94-99 in Game 5 at home in Denver yesterday to claim a 4-1 series victory.

Serbian superstar Nikola Jokic, who was later crowned NBA Finals MVP, led the way for the Nuggets, finishing Game 5 with 28 points, 16 rebounds and four assists.

“It’s good, it’s good. The job is done now. We can go home now,” the understated Jokic said post-game.

In rugby league

After missing Queensland’s 26-18 victory in ORIGIN I in Adelaide due to suspension, the Cowboys breakout player from 2022, Jeremiah Nanai returns for ORIGIN II in the second row as replacement for Tom Gilbert who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the series opener.

New NSW Blues Halfback, Mitchell Moses says that he’s ready to help the Blues create ORIGIN history at Suncorp on 21 June after making an undeniable case for the NSW No.7 jersey in the Parramatta Eels 34-12 defeat of the Canterbury Bulldogs on Monday.

In rugby

What happens if one of the Super Rugby semifinals this week ends in a draw?

The match goes to extra time.

With two tight contests between the Crusaders and Blues in Christchurch on Friday and then Chiefs-Brumbies in Hamilton the following night you wouldn’t rule it out.

Okay, what happens if the match is drawn at the end of extra time?

The match goes to a 10 minute ‘sudden death’ period.

And if it’s still a draw after that?

In football

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly made a bombshell call on his future which will put Europe’s biggest Clubs on red alert.

Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported the French superstar has informed Paris Saint-Germain he does not intend to extend his deal with the club.

It means Mbappe will become a free agent in June 2024.

However, Romano reports PSG have no intentions to lose Mbappe on a free deal, which means the French club could choose to cash in on their prized asset this summer, or in the January transfer window.

In boxing

Only days out from his big bash on the Gold Coast, Aussie champ, Tim Tszyu fronted media for the first time in fight week – and delivered a KO prediction for Mexico’s No.1 ranked Super Welterweight Carlos Ocampo.

A confident Tszyu said that he will need no more than five rounds to finish the Mexican.

What can we say except, “Ola, ole hombre”!

And finally in SportBiz

Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke has the midas touch in pro sports.

Their NBA Championship title win is the fifth championship won by a team that he owns, since the beginning of 2022.

The Colorado Avalanche won last year’s Stanley Cup after the Los Angeles Rams claimed victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. Kroenke’s Colorado Mammoth won the 2022 National Lacrosse League Cup and one of his e-sports teams, the Los Angeles Guerrillas, took home a title in the Call of Duty League last year as well.

Ummm lacrosse ok, but e-sports?

And that’s a wrap!
