While their 2024 future is secure, the Melbourne Rebels could be told they’ll be closing their doors within weeks, after revelations the ailing Super Rugby Club has just A$17,300 in the bank.
The team has entered voluntary administration and auditors from PwC have found they owe over A$20Million, including:
- · A$11.6 million in taxes
- · A$5.7M to board members
- · A$2.8M to suppliers
- · A$1.1M in unpaid stadium fees
- · A$720,000 to the state revenue office and
- · A$250,000 in employee superannuation.
Their assets amount to some office furniture, gym equipment and two cars.
In rugby league
Clubs are unleashing new recruits and naming some of their biggest stars for week one of the NRL Pre-season Challenge.
On Thursday Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs vs Melbourne Storm, 7pm at Belmore Sports Ground.
On Saturday Newcastle Knights vs Cronulla Sharks, 1.45pm and Sydney Roosters vs Manly Sea Eagles, 3.45pm in Gosford.
