Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 06 Episode 42 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on an overcast and windy, but warm Saturday morning 12 August 2023.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

In the FIFA World Cup

At the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals yesterday: Spain beat the Netherlands 1-2 in Wellington and Sweden chopped Japan 1-2 at Eden Park in Auckland.

Today in Brisbane at 5pm it’s the big one, where we tip Australia to didgeridoo France and Colombia to brexito England at 8.30pm at Stadium Australia in Sydney.

In Rugby

The smart early money on who will win the Rugby World Cup 2023 is, that while the All Blacks have been excellent this year, the French – with the Irish a whisker behind them – are Europe’s best chance in 20 years to win it.

And then there are the underdogs – the Springboks and Fiji.

In rugby league

Reece Walsh was the star once again, as the Broncos engineered a 54-10 demolition job on the limp Parramatta Eels at the Gabba last night.

Star Bronco halfback Adam Reynolds scored 22 points on his return from a week off with a groin injury, scoring a try, nailing eight conversions and a penalty goal to become the second player in NRL history to kick 1000 goals.

Reynolds also overtook Jonathan Thurston as the fourth highest points-scorer of all-time.

In the other NRL game last night: The Cronulla Sharks 36-6 the Gold Coast Titans.

Today sees South Sydney Rabbitohs versus St George Dragons at Barlow Park in Cairns at 3pm AEST, Wests Tigers versus the NZ Warriors in Hamilton at 5.30pm and the Sydney Roosters versus the Dolphins at CommBank Stadium at 7.35pm.

In Sports Biz

News Corp is reporting that the Gold Coast Titans will fork out A$15Million for their superstar forwards, David Fifita at A$3M over three years and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui set to earn A$12M over 10 years in a major coup for the Club.

The duo had get-out clauses which became active, after head Coach Justin Holbrook was sacked recently.

In combat Sports

The Battle of the Billionaires, an MMA fight between social media moguls, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has been officially confirmed by Musk on Twitter, revealing that the fight will be managed by their respective foundations, and not the UFC.

Musk also revealed that the fight will be live-streamed on both Twitter and Facebook, and that the fight will take place in Italy with an “ancient Rome” theme.

Ummm like the gladiator Russell Crowe.

And that’s a wrap!
