Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 08 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a partly cloudy but sunny Tuesday morning 11 April 2023.

Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

In rugby union: Wales’ Men and Women have been crowned World Deaf Rugby 7s World Cup champions in Argentina.

Wales Men won the final 20-5 against Australia, which sealed their third consecutive trophy.

This report from Wales Online contradicts a report on FBC in Fiji yesterday which claimed that “The Fiji Deaf Rugby 7s team bowed out of cup contention after losing to South Africa in the final of the World Deaf Rugby 7s World Cup.”

Both reports say that Fiji lost to Wales 24-5 in their opening pool game.

Wales Men beat Argentina 25-5 in the quarter-finals before seeing off last time’s finalists England 14-5 in the semis.

Maybe FBC got their sign language wrong?

In rugby league: Maika Sivo scored twice and Mitch Moses showed why the Wests Tigers were so desperate to sign him after the Eels halfback set up four tries and nailed a clutch conversion to sink his former Club 28-22, piling more misery on the winless Tigers who were outstanding in the second half.

After Round 6 of the NRL, Wayne Bennett is the greatest coach in rugby league history after the job he’s done with the Dolphins.

Last Friday night against the Cowboys, the Dolphins were missing Jesse Bromwich, Felise Kaufusi and others, but it didn’t matter as The Hammer, Jamayne Isaako and other players stepped up and got the job done.

In football: Barcelona can go 15 points clear at the top of La Liga if they beat Girona at home – Spotify Camp Nou Stadium this morning – Easter Monday night in Spain, after Madrid lost 2-3 at home to Villarreal on Saturday.

Ahead of the Catalan derby, Manager Xavi Hernandez has confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will lead their attack, flanked by Ansu Fati and Raphinha.

In Boxing: Donald Trump was at UFC287 in Miami on Sunday, flanked by guess who – Kid Rock and Mike Tyson.

The former US President made the surprise appearance after he was formally indicted by a Manhattan grand jury for alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels plus pleading not guilty to 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records

The crowd chanted “USA” as Mr Trump waved and pumped his fist in the Kaseya Center in Miami.

At The Masters at Augusta and in SportsBiz: Jon Rahm shot 276 to win The Masters and US$3,240,000. In doing so he became the fourth Spaniard to win at Augusta following in the footsteps of the legendary Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia.

Phil Mickelson on 280 came from nowhere with eight birdies on the final day to grab a share of second place and pocket US$1,584,000 each with Brooks Koepka.

At 52, Mickelson became the oldest player in Masters history to have a top-five finish, and his final-round 65 was the lowest Masters round ever for a player over 50.

Jordan Spieth 281 closed with a 66 for US$744,000 each for fourth place with Patrick Reed and Russell Henley.

Cousin Tony Finau 288 came in equal 26th with Kiwi star, Ryan Fox and Scott Stallings for US$138,600 each.

Not bad for a long weekend Easter egg!
