Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 08 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on a bright and sunny Sunday morning 09 April 2023.

Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

In rugby union: Singapore 7s Quarter-finals today from 4.18pm: Samoa v Uruguay, Argentina v Australia, France v Fiji and New Zealand v Great Britain

Key scores from yesterday: South Africa 0-19 Australia, NZ 47-0 Hong Kong China, Samoa 28-24 Spain, Fiji 21-12 Canada, NZ 24-12 Australia, Fiji 7-28 Samoa, Australia 48-0 Hong Kong China, NZ 12-7 South Africa, Samoa 39-7 Canada and in the final game on Day One after 11pm last night Fiji 31-0 Spain to get through to the quarterfinals.

In rugby league: The Raiders delivered a stunning upset to down the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium last night, ambushing the current competition leaders to win 20-14.

Afterwards at the post-game media gig, Canberra Coach, Ricky Stuart confirmed the Dolphins were the Raiders’ biggest threat in keeping their marquee star, Jack Whitton. “Yeah, 100 per cent … we have put an offer there, we have done everything we can and that is up to Jack and his management now,” Stuart said.

Meanwhile, Dylan Edwards was the star of the show, picking up four tries as the Panthers fired off a warning to the rest of the NRL that they are still the team to beat in 2023, recording a resounding 44-12 win over a hopeless Manly.

In Boxing: In a bizarre final outing before today’s blockbuster UFC287, Israel Adesanya sported a dog collar, Alex Pereira turned up in a purple suit and Dana White … well, the UFC Prez just seemed to scowl every time a journalist opened their mouth.

“Do you have a question about the fight and to these guys who are fighting? Or do you just want to start shit in here? What’s your question?”

Welcome to Miami, baby.

At The Masters at Augusta: Brooks Koepka goes into the third round on top of the leaderboard at 12-under; holding a two-shot lead over Jon Rahm. Amateur Sam Bennett is alone in third at 8-under.

Fiji’s Vijay Singh missed the cut after the first round, cousin Tony Finau is in the middle of the pack while Kiwi star, Ryan Fox son of Grant who is his caddy, is in a very creditable 15th spot.

The weather is worsening in Augusta as Round Three gets underway, expected to be played in pouring rain, strong winds and cold temperatures.

In SportsBiz: The Masters perennially ranks as the most-watched golf tournament on any US network, and CBS’ final-round audiences dwarf that of the three other majors.

Last year, the average TV viewers on CBS for The Masters was 10.2 million, which according to Sports Media Watch, is the most-watched golf telecast on any network since Tiger Woods’ final-round victory in 2019 of 10.8 million.

In contrast, the final-round audiences for the PGA Championship and the US Open both 5.3 million and The Open Championship 4.7 million TV viewers.
