Talofa, Ma’lele’i, Bula and welcome to Season 05 Episode 35 of Breakfast Bites, the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on another bright, sunny and muggy Saturday morning 06 May 2023.

Coming to you from paradise, on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

In rugby union

It’s all systems go for Team Fijiana to raspberrydelite the Queensland Reds in the 2023 Super W Grand final at 6.45pm this evening.

The girls have been in lock down in the 48 hours leading up to kick-off as they defend their 2022 title.

Also wishing the Fijian Drua all the best against the Hurricanes in Suva, Fiji at 2.05pm this afternoon.

Go The Chiefs! Last night against the Highlanders under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium in chilly Dunedin, and also against our World famous Tip of a win for Aaron Smith & Company, the Men from Hamilton were simply too good – winning 52-26.

That man – flying fullback, Emoni Narawa sparked the Chiefs counter surge with another long range, breakout try from just outside his red zone early in the first half and one could, at the break, feel that this one was all over red rover!

In rugby league

It took the Green Machine just one minute to get Jordan Rapana on the board — catching a Jamal Fogarty bomb and crashing over to help the Raiders down the Bulldogs 30-34 in a thrilling finish to the opening game of Magic Round, their fourth win on the trot.

This was followed by gun Wing, Selwyn Cobbo scoring a hat trick for the Broncos to massacre Manly 6-32.

Our world famous tips for NRL Magic Round today: the New Zealand Warriors to peterpan Penrith, the Dolphins to cococrunch Cronulla and Souths to Sambuca the Storm.

In football

Napoli finally ended their long wait to win Italy’s Serie A yesterday morning, after a 1-1 draw at Udinese secured their third league title with a record-equalling five games still to play.

Thousands of fans in Udine, plus 55,000 more at the Stadio Maradona in Naples and all around southern Italy’s biggest city, exploded with joy at the final whistle as 33 years of waiting came to an end.

In the EPL, Brighton gained sweet revenge for their defeat to Man U on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final a few weeks ago, with a goal from the spot in the dying seconds to earn a 1-0 win yesterday.

The result leaves United in fourth place in the Premier League, four points clear of Liverpool, with a game in hand.

While Brighton is seeking to qualify for Europe for the first time in their history, lie sixth with five games to play.

And in SportsBiz…

Sportswear giant ADIDAS reports US$5.82Billion in Q1 2023 revenue — a 1% dip from last year.

ADIDAS also reported an operating profit of US$66.2Million for that period.

Earlier this week, a group of ADIDAS shareholders filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, saying it should have known better than to partner with Ye AKA Kanye West.

Having also cut ties with superstar Beyoncé in March, ADIDAS has turned to its Samba, Gazelle, and Campus brands to lift sales – now producing them at larger scale.

In boxing

Prior to British star John Ryder, seven other Brits have fought Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and all came up short, including Amir Khan, Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith – the Mexican legend is simply too good.

In fact, Matthew Hatton who lost his WBA title challenge in 2011 admits that he still takes pain killers today due to Canelo’s hard shots.

“It’s just not worf it mate!”
