Summary
Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 03 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this beautiful bright and sunny Monday morning 03 October 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
In rugby – the Women’s RWC about to start in Auckland is the ninth edition of the tournament, and the first to be held in the southern hemisphere. It will showcase the phenomenal growth of the women’s game, and hopefully inspire a new generation of Pasifika girls to play and support rugby.
Captains of all 12 nations competing in the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021 gathered at Eden Park in Auckland yesterday. Fijiana Captain, Sereima Leweniqila said: “It has been a tremendous journey. We are both grateful and excited ahead of our first RWC match ever.”
In rugby league – the Penrith Panthers were simply too good, winning the NRL Grand Final in front of 82,415 fans at Accor Stadium in Sydney last night, with Clive Churchill Medalist Dylan Edwards running 281M, Brian To’o 299M and Nathan Cleary delivering their fourth and first back-to-back NRL titles.
The question has gotta be asked, “Has Brad Arthur really got what it takes to coach the Parramatta Eels to an NRL Premiership title?” Some Club Executives and Board directors think not, so don’t be surprised if he gets the flick. Timing is critical so they’ll have to wait a bit.
Amazing that 42,000 fans got into Accor Stadium early to watch the NRL Womens Final battle, won by the Newcastle Knights with a 32-12 win over Parramatta whose fans suffered a double loss with their men dumped 28-12 by Penrith.
In boxing – Bob Arum, Tyson Fury’s US-based promoter, believes Eddie Hearn is trying to prevent the Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight: “Because Joshua’s lost three out of his last five fights and he figures to lose again if he fights Tyson and so Eddie is in effect being an impediment.”
In the NBA – Kiwi NBA star, Steven Adams has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Memphis Grizzlies for $45Million – not sure if that’s US or Kiwi dollars, whatever that’s still a hell of a lot of dosh!
Is he married? What’s its gender?
