Recent PNG Riots May Damage NRL Team Based In PoM

While a Papua New Guinea-based team is leading the race to become the NRL’s 18th franchise, Peter V’landys reveals that North Sydney could be involved in some capacity.

“Everywhere I go, that’s always the question; when are you bringing back the Bears? I didn’t realise they had so many old fans,” V’landys said.

But, after the recent riots across Papua New Guinea, our wantok there cannot be sure if a Port Moresby-based team is still leading the race for the NRL’s 18th team.

The case for a franchise based in Fiji is firming with the Kaiviti Silktails proving a success in New South Wales and the first ever NRL-sanctioned game between the Newcastle Knights and the Melbourne Storm, scheduled for 24 February in Lautoka.
