The Dolphins pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NRL history, stunning premiership favourites the Roosters in their inaugural match. Wayne Bennett’s side dominated in defence and outmuscled the Roosters for a gritty 28-18 win in front of 32,177 fans at Suncorp Stadium.

Not many people gave the Dolphins a hope of upsetting the Roosters, except Wayne Bennett: “Yeah not too bad,” the Master Coach said of the result in his understated way, “I’m proud of everything they did,” Bennett said. “It was special for a lot of reasons today,”

Man of the Match, Felise Kaufusi changed the game with some brutal defence in the first half. “I think that was the turning point in the game personally,” Wayne Bennett said. “He made a couple of crucial hits there where they lost the ball and I didn’t think they recovered from.”
