A lot of people call me BULL, I’ve been associated with the Marist Women’s Club for quite some time and with women’s rugby for very long time first and foremost we must thank the many presidents past and president that have supported women’s rugby at the club.
A lot of people call me bull, i’ve been associated with the Marist Women’s Club for quite some time and with women’s rugby for very long time first and foremost we must thank the many presidents past and president that have supported women’s rugby at the club.
I can say that women’s rugby started at the club during the saint john marist era and one of the founders of women’s rugby is pio bosco the line beta many fiji current fijian reps have gone through the marist women’s club rugby club system
One of our coaches here was miss eleanor kunatumba who was very instrumental in training a lot of our current fijian reps i can say more than 20 plays have gone on to represent fiji in 7s and some of our girls are international they’ve represented fiji in rugby league and they won gold at our last south pacific games and they also represented fiji in soccer
A couple of them have gone on to play in new zealand professional rugby league and one of them is royale ranginia woon who is now the fullback for the figure bethila tawaki educated yet sl national
Rep for basketball she came to rugby and she found that she was comfortable with rugby and she’s now dishing out big hits and she’s comfortable on the flanks or she can play in the front row not manyplayers can do that
Also the reason why marist women’s club is comfortable with women’s struggles because one of our feelings is in the way of men so women are always important in our culture we have a couple of students in secondary school we have a couple of police officers but most of them are uni students
Also it will be about 28 and below the leadership is always looking at ways to shoot girls through to study making the right choices in whatever they do they are not playing they are put into to do admin roles during the marist 7s and this helps them also
We’ve got a girl just she just graduated from usp she’s now fully fledged police officer because she’s always life after rugby the club is fortunate that we are in the super rugby competition and super rugby union has a competition for the women
I think more than eight clubs playing sevens and fifteens we’re lucky to be in the super red minion umbrella because they provide all the competition biggest challenges uh women’s dragon faces is supported and the girls get at the madrid club are fortunate that they have leadership that support them in whatever they do it and we have marist supporting the unit for groceries bus fares and the club leadership is always there on saturdays there’s hot meals for the girls there’s hydration iquids for the girls after games
How important the players are to the club is where the club pays for a physiotherapist full time to be on site wherever they play straps everything the way women strike this going in fiji even without the support but women’s rugby is rolling
It was for me a pleasure to be around players that now have become stars of fijian already.
