Despite all the conspiracy theories, the long-serving Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor has resigned for personal reasons. Big John has not been well lately and it is understood he has stepped down for personal health reasons and not for any other reason to do with the change of government as speculated by some social media commentators.
The big questions are, will new Prime Minister, Rabuka take up the Presidency of Fiji Rugby Union as is customary, or will he just let it slide like the new Samoan PM with Samoa Rugby Union?
Will Rabuka, as PM want to control the FRU Board like his predecessor Bainimarama, who insisted that the PM’s nominee as director also be the Chairman?
Will the FRU Annual General Meetings be so tightly controlled to the point virtually no other Union except Suva, submitted agenda items for discussion and nominees to the Board?
Will the AGMs once again be opened up for the media to attend?
FRU director, Tevita Tuiloa is standing in as CEO until a new CEO is appointed in six to eight weeks.
